Костел Святого Мікулаша (по-нашому Миколая) знаходиться в історичному районі Праги, який називається Мала Страна. Цей католицький храм визнано одним з найзначніших пам'ятників празького бароко. Будувався собор з 1704 по 1755 рік.
The Church of St. Nicholas (in our opinion Nicholas) is located in the historic district of Prague, which is called Mala Strana. This Catholic church is recognized as one of the most significant monuments of the Prague Baroque. The cathedral was built from 1704 to 1755.
Подовжений фасад собору легко пізнаваний, портал прикрашений декором та балюстрадою. Башта є повністю несучою конструкцією, виконана ідеально, не дивлячись на побоювання сучасників будівництва. На місці сучасного храму раніше знаходився готичний костел. В цьому соборі, вірніше на його башті, несли службу глашатаї, які мали бити тривогу при виникненні пожеж або наближенні ворогів.
A Gothic church used to stand on the site of the modern church. In this cathedral, or rather on its tower, there was a service of heralds, who were to sound the alarm in case of fire or approach of enemies.
Цікаво що під час влади комуністичного чехословацького режиму на башті костелу була облаштована спеціальна площадка для спецслужб, звідки вони могли спостерігати за посольствами США, Югославії та ФРН. Аж до 1990 року ця площадка використовувалися за призначенням.
Interestingly, during the rule of the communist Czechoslovak regime, a special platform for special services was set up on the church tower, from where they could observe the embassies of the USA, Yugoslavia and Germany. Until 1990, this site was used for its intended purpose.
