Острів Хортиця є самим великим на Дніпрі. Розташований він практично в самому Запоріжжі, неподалік від ДніпроГЕС, греблю добре видно з острова.
The island of Khortytsia is the largest on the Dnieper. It is located almost in Zaporozhye, near the Dnieper HPP, the dam is clearly visible from the island.
Хортиця має довжину біля 12 км і в середньому 2,5 км завширшки. На острові є ліс, а в південній частині степ з реліктовими рослинами, деякі з яких ростуть тільки на Хортиці.
Khortytsia is about 12 km long and 2.5 km wide on average. The island has a forest, and in the southern part of the steppe with relict plants, some of which grow only on Khortytsia.
До будівництва Дніпровської ГЕС, на Дніпрі існувало дев’ять порогів. Скали і скелясті острови, які видно зараз на південній частині Хортиці самі по собі порогами не є, але дуже схожі на них. Стоячи на березі і дивлячись на цій каменюки можна уявити себе в далекі козацькі часи, коли тут існувала легендарна Січ.
Prior to the construction of the Dnieper HPP, there were nine rapids on the Dnieper. The rocks and rocky islands that are now visible in the southern part of Khortytsia are not rapids in themselves, but very similar to them. Standing on the shore and looking at this stone, you can imagine yourself in the distant Cossack times, when there was a legendary Sich.
