United Nations Human Rights Council appoint China onto a special panel amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
China now plays a crucial role in picking who monitors the world's freedom of speech, health, enforced disappearances, and arbitrary detention.
"The UN is giving one of the most oppressive governments in the world a key role in selecting officials who shape international human rights standards," Hillel Neuer from UN Watch, said.
This panel will also pick a health investigator as the official Coronavirus death toll tops 65,000.
Meanwhile, a leaked US intelligence report asserts "we cannot trust China's word on what happened in Wuhan."
China's power on the UN's World Health Organisation is widely blamed for COVID-19 getting out of control.
