With his ear pressed tightly against the cold door, Mark listened to the hushed tones as the two women inside the room confided in each other.
It was difficult to hear perfectly, but he could hear enough to know it was true.
Woman often have this innate ability to share everything from the banal to the life changing with each other in a way men can't always grasp. The conversation that Mark was secretly privy to fell in the latter category. His mouth slowly fell ajar as he listened ever more intently.
"There was no other choice. He was going to leave me. My baby was going to leave me, so I gave him what he always wanted" she said with tears in her eyes.
"But you're not pregnant Lucy! When he finds out, he'll hit the roof, surely you know that? He'll pack his bags and be gone for good"
"H-h-he won't leave. He loves me" Lucy pleaded in a way that didn't even convince herself.
Mark's ear was red now and he had heard enough. It was time to go before they sensed his presence. The information he had could destroy one life, but save another. He had a decision to make. He'd have to move quickly. Time was of the essence now.
Some sudden movement behind him startled him, as he heard a door creak shut. The lock turned and then footsteps echoed down the hall. The reality hit him quickly. He was trapped.
This was my interpretation of the freewrite for prompt word "Pregnant"

What to do for a freewrite
Look at the theme. Set a 5 minute timer and just write. Whatever comes to mind. Just go with it... it's like a stream of consciousness.
