It was second semester and the school will be vacating for christmas. Diego and his two friends Fabian and Romero decided to spend the Christmas holidays in the countryside. As soon as the general assembly dispersed they packaged their bags and went straight to the park where they boarded a coaster bus heading to the countryside.
When they arrived at their various homes, their grandparents were handy to receive them. They enjoyed the folktales and moonlight stories. The next day they decided to go on an excursion. They chose nearby woods and went with their cutlasses.
Right in the woods, they saw various kinds of mushrooms, some were budding while others had decayed. They also came across some wild fruits which they harvested and ate happily. The one that really caught their fancy was the wild pineapples. It was very succulent.
Few metres away from that spot they saw a cleared portion in the woods. It was well decorated with ribbons of various colours. Other things like effigy were also dropped at some strategic places. The inquisitive Diego and his friends drew closer to have a look at the strange objects, touching and even feeling them with their bare hands.
As they were interrogating themselves as to what all those mean, an old man sauntered in from a corner of the cleared portion. Diego and his friends were rattled. They had wanted to run but something mysterious disarmed them.
"Hey boys who are you", the old man said in a shrill voice.
"Goodmorning sir", they all managed to mutter with each shivering.
"Hey boys, don't you know that this is a sacred place. You don't need to desecrate it by touching objects here without permission?", the man went on. "Don't, you?".....
Diego and his friends became remorseful and pleaded with tht old man to forgive them. He then drew closer to tht boys, brought out an old calabash filled with water and sprinkled it on them. He then asked the boys to leave the place in peace. Diego and his friends thanked him and literally crept out of the place.
