RE: Freedom, Censorship, & You: The Ultimate Guide (Emma's Dilemma) Pt. 2

in Freewriters3 years ago

Ya, what a read! I've not got anything to say really, the issues seem laid out in full and in balance. This would be a great resource to link to when the issue comes up and I'll endeavour to do just that!

Our current social climate seems to be getting more extreme, more polarized, and more triggered.

Yep! This is very much happening on Hive too IMO. Emma's Dilemma - and its resolution at an individual, considered level - can go a long way to softening positions and attitudes amongst those who give it some thought.

PS. Two little observations :)
(1) The first sentence under section 13 (Whales) is repeated.
(2) Typo ('well' = whale?): "It sounds like just one downvote from a whale on Hive can be devastating, and that that same well can actually spam downvotes on a target too.”

Sort:

Well, I'm honored you see it as such a comprehensive work covering things in balance! That's high praise as far as I'm concerned.

Very good point about polarization reflected here on Hive as it is in society, and I'd be thrilled if this did anything to soften attitudes.

Also, I hugely appreciate your corrections/edits and will apply them, tomorrow most likely. 🙏 🙏 🙏

Thanks for taking it as such 🙏

My dance with this kinda polarisation on Hive has taken the form of an attempted duckshoot and what I saw as some cancelled irony :D.

Rising above the specifics of any issue and seeing it within the framework of group dynamics where one always has a choice (those three options, for example :) is the powerful perspective imparted by this work of your IMO.... also its potential for reaching areas of awareness normally closed to challenges/differing_perspectives through use of humour and dialogue.

In the spirit of discussing these issues, it does seem to me that there is a balance to be maintained between pure, unadulterated self-expression on the one hand, and on the other, a view of the 'audience' and what (if anything) one wants from them (expectations). It also seems to me that where self-expression is given priority over 'catering to the crowd', much else follows. Perhaps there is some blockchain happiness to be found, as long as one isn't caught up in the 'maximisation' trap of comparison of self with others and subsequent grabSnatchAllICan attitude.

My pleasure!

And wow, I'm thrilled you've written so much in your posts related to this topic. I'll do my best to digest them later, but their overall vibe seems pretty poignant.

I aimed to offer a powerful and empowering perspective, and I'm so glad many are picking up on it. I'd be thrilled if it reached areas that are normally closed to such.

And yes, you've hit it squarely... the point of the post focuses heavily on the balance between personal-freedom & group-boundaries.

And yes again, stepping into one's self-expression generally pays off. :)

The blockchain can help somewhat, but ultimately it's designed by humans and maintained by humans, and so human dynamics will continue to be at play on it. How much happiness lies on it? Well, I guess we'll see, heheh. :)

Anyway, thanks again for contributing here. 🙏
