Christmas Eve turned into a never-ending nightmare for Nicolas. He was dozing restlessly when noises from the living room startled him.

A shiver ran down his spine as he remembered the terrifying events of the previous year.

Slow footsteps came up the stairs, accompanied by a gasp of breath. The sharp clatter of the axe against the steps unleashed his panic.

Tears of terror rolled down her cheeks as she trembled under the covers, trying to stifle her sobs so as not to wake her parents.

The eerie sounds came closer and closer to her room. She held her breath as they stopped outside her door.

After a few moments of eerie stillness, she risked a peek through the blankets.

The blood ran cold in his veins at the ghoulish apparition on the threshold. A diabolical version of Father Christmas, his face distorted in a wicked grimace, wielded an axe with blackened claws.

When their gazes met, the spectre gave a demonic grin that chilled Nicholas' soul.

It swung the weapon high in the air and dropped it with a sure blow... Nicolas awoke drenched in sweat, a piercing scream stuck in his parched throat.

The first rays of dawn were streaming through the window. It had just been another of his recurring Christmas nightmares.
