”Just this once... and I’ll never do it again... I promise”, the 7 year old Ellie muttered to herself as she slipped into an alley on her left.
It was half past eight and she was hungry and it was late. She just wanted to go home. Normally her mother picked her up after her dance classes but today was not one of those normal days.
The alley was almost abandoned and was quite the contrast of the busy Main Street she exited. It was dark and dreadfully quiet with no sign of life.
Everyone avoids this alley but she reminded herself that today was not normal and she had to get home soon. The Main Street would take her 30 minutes while this deadly shortcut could get her home in 10.
She pinched her nose to avoid the rotting smell of the garbage dumpster.
That’s when she felt someone behind her. She turned around but saw no one. Her heartbeat echoed in her ears as she fasten her pace.
“Hello there little girl”, boomed a voice behind her and she yelped. She ran as fast as her legs could take her but the voice followed on her trail.
The end was so close yet she was so scared.
She couldn’t remember to scream.
Tears rolled down as she continued running.
She almost touched the light again when a dark silhouette leaped in front of her. She tripped on her feet as she halted to a stop.
“Where are you going? Din’t anyone tell you it’s rude to ignore a greeting? You tiny humans are the worst as they come.”, the creature said in a deep, chillingly hoarse voice.

Hello!
This is my entry for the Freewrite Prompt by @mariannewest.
I haven’t been able to be very active on hive recently due to my upcoming exams scheduled in November 2020. Once I am done with them I’ll be back on track 😁🙋♀️
Have a great day ahead.
Cheers.
That was an unexpected ending! And great buildup of tension!
Well I am super annoyed by cliffhangers and abrupt endings.
So I thought of writing one!
😂🤣😂
