This is my first visit to the Freewriters Community and participation in the ZapFic50 Friday challenge. This week the prompt is "bat". I hope to be able to capture the essence of this simple but powerful word. I have included the link to this week's challenge in case you'd like to participate: It's not just Friday... it's ZapFic50Friday! Write me a story in precisely 50 words!.
Thank you Freewriters Community for this writing exercise that helps one become precise in their ability to convey a story. This should be interesting in being restricted to exactly 50 words. I also like the format for once a week.
As required in the rules, i have taken a screenshot of the word counter for this story.
I hope you like my story for this week's prompt:
The large, bleak conference room was intimidating as we waited.
But that was minute compared to its door slamming behind me.
Right off the bat, the manager yelled, "someone's going to be designated the "scapegoat" for this latest venture failing!"
Then he looked directly at me, and asked "any volunteers?"

Hello @clicks2cash. Welcome to the Freewriters Community. That was intimidating indeed. I can imagine this scene as I worked in a corporate environment decades ago. I hope the person wasn't delegated to be the fall victim.
