“So, the straight away in the race is finally when you stop running in circles and find a way to straighten out your life to get away, because ain't no way.”

Little girls Gracie (8) and Velma Trent (11) along with Amanda (7), Edwina (8), Glendella (10), and Eleanor Ludlow (11) were watching Olympic replays from 2016, and trying to understand. Edwina had said her peace about it, and Velma tried next.

“The 10,000-meter is 33,750 feet – that's more than six whole miles going around and around!” Velma said.

“Is that even safe?” Amanda said. “I don't see anybody with cookies, Gatorade, blankies for the end part.”

“They probably don't put that out in the first laps, because I know I wouldn't finish the race,” Eleanor said.

“Ain't it the truth,” Gracie said. “But the good thing is, you can take a popcorn break and come back and they will still be running.”

“Yeah, let's do that,” the other five girls said, but Glendella fell off pace and looked back, and the other five girls missed her and backtracked.

“I just realized: I'm ten years old,” she said. “My life was basically running 1,000 meters a year, until I found the straightaway.”

“And the cookies, and the Gatorade, and the blankies, and the snugglecouragement!” Amanda said as she ran to give Glendella a big hug before the rest of the girls followed.

The girls are so sweet, I really like the way they take care of each other. Cookies and hugs make everything better and for that I'm getting some cookies today, happy Friday and gld the weekend is finally arriving again

One thing these kids are going to do is look out for each other ... that's what happens when they are raised by adults who do the same thing.

Nice write up
