I know many senior citizens, veterans, and also artists, who have this lived experience. For high creatives there is always that temptation ... but also for people who have experienced great trauma, or outlived their peers who knew the world roughly as they did. However, it is a temptation to be resisted, for there is a shared reality that catches up all too soon: human mortality. The occasion to live in the world is all too brief ... it is important for us to remember that, and strive to live while we can.
