“TROLLEY PROBLEM”

It is very easy to visualize an ethical dilemma as a mathematical problem in search of the most effective solution; no one wants to be in the situation of the tram conductor who has no brakes and runs over everything in his path, where there is no outcome that does not include ending the life of some unfortunate person trapped and lying in the middle of the track.
Just as in our lives there is a series of disasters or an evil plan of which we are the victims and which is beyond our control and which is leading us towards an inevitable catastrophe, we prefer to stop at the switch, far away from all the chaos, and play a little like gods with fate. To have the illusion of control, to be able to act, to do something, even if we end up with blood on our hands.

Es muy fácil visualizar un dilema ético como un problema matemático en busca de la solución más eficaz; nadie quiere encontrarse en la situación del conductor de tranvía que no tiene frenos y arrolla todo lo que encuentra a su paso, donde no hay desenlace que no incluya acabar con la vida de algún desgraciado atrapado y tendido en medio de la vía.
Del mismo modo que en nuestras vidas hay una serie de desastres o un plan maléfico del que somos víctimas y que escapa a nuestro control y que nos conduce hacia una catástrofe inevitable, preferimos detenernos en el cambio de agujas, lejos de todo el caos, y jugar un poco como dioses con el destino. Tener la ilusión del control, poder actuar, hacer algo, aunque acabemos con las manos manchadas de sangre.
