I love the expression, "stake through his art". The play on words is quite catchy, and expressional. You know the common phrase is, "stake through his heart".
Most folks will not see the play on words there, they might overlook the art and assume it is heart. I almost did too until I had to type it out.
The point of the phrase is not really what it means, as interpretation can produce different meaning based on context but the use of expressive words, it is quite creative.
As much as it is an expression, it can be that the stake through his art might be a problem faced in his art. We know for sure it has something to do with his art.
