Sonnet to the winter of my life

Cruel winter that in my soul you melt away,
covering my dreams and longings with ice.
Your icy winds are cruel sleeplessness
that relentlessly lash my sad stoats.

Your snowflakes are cold caresses
that numb everything with icy veils.
The frost you paint with white brushes
freezes the stream of my smooth first fruits.

You envelop my being in nocturnal caprice,
you bury my laughter under the snow.
The mists you exhale have undone my happiness.

In me you have installed your gelled stay,
reigning with cold and hostile whim,
depriving me of the joy of the longed-for spring.
