I was watching the latest series of Winx Club when my phone chimed, and it was Tega's text. I paused the cartoon for a bit to read the text, as it was a bit lengthy.
My eyes caught those beautiful lines: 'Wear something nice; we're going to do something fun today.’ As shocked as I was, I was way above the moon. Tega and I were finally going out after months of hanging out in his apartment and mine.
Suddenly, the Winx Club didn't make sense anymore, as all I could think of was being in a beautiful and cozy place with Tega.
I quickly rushed to the salon to style my hair and nails. I don't know when we’d go out next, but now that it's happening, I was going to make it count.
I didn't waste time at the salon, as there were few customers around. I finished in record time and headed straight to the house to get ready for Tega to pick me up.

I had a hard time choosing what to wear as Tega didn't mention where we were going. I did my best to look good without doing too much or too little. I finally settled for a pair of jeans and a turtle neck crop top and brown block heels.
I stared at my reflection in the mirror and was proud of the beautiful lady staring back at me.
After getting ready, I dialed Tega's line, and he was already on his way to my house.
Everything felt good, and deep down in my heart, I prayed earnestly that nothing should go wrong because I was enjoying the evening already.
Tega drove into the compound and I immediately came out of my house to meet him outside. I saw his face light up the moment he saw me, he was impressed and didn't hesitate to rush out of the car to hug and kiss me all over my face.

"Okay, Tiger, tone it down, you're going to ruin my hair and makeup," I said as I giggled from his touch.
"I don't care," he replied in a husky voice.
"But I care, I care," I said trying to feign annoyance.
"Okay fine, fine, fine, we'll pick up from where we stop when we get back". He smiled, kissing me on my forehead.
"Hell no!!" I screamed and rolled my eyes.
"Hell yes!!" He screamed right back but I was too excited to argue with him.
Tega drove for a couple of minutes before we got to the venue.
It was a stable, a freaking stable, one that I have always wanted to visit.

Stepping from the passenger's seat I hugged and kissed Tega. "Thank you, baby, I love it!!"
"Anything for you, Princess," He said, kissing me right back.
We got into the stable and I was glad for my choice of outfit. If I had gone with the short body con dress I wanted to settle for earlier, I would have had a hard time riding the house.
The date was perfect, just as I had played it in my head or so I thought….
Tega was extremely sweet and I had to ask myself if he was the same person I tagged as being unromantic.
Basking in the euphoria of our perfect date and being in the presence of the one person I love the most in the world, Tega broke the news.
“Cindy I am sorry,” he said sadly.
“Okay….Sorry about what?” I asked out of confusion.
“Cindy I lied to you.” His smile waned.
“You lied to me about what?” I said, trying to steady my voice.

“My Genotype Cindy. I am also AS and I have never been AA like I told you when we started dating.”
“What?!” I gasped.
“Yes, Cindy I lied, we can never be together because of our genotype but I love you so much and didn’t want to leave you just yet.
“You are an evil person, Tega,” I said as tears rolled down my cheeks.
“I know, I’m evil, I’m selfish, I’m wicked but I love you and genotype has nothing to do with that.
“You are sick!! You need help and you need it ASAP.”
I stormed out of the stable like a raging lion, heart pounding, palms sweaty, I ran with the last ounce of energy in me, I ran, not minding who was watching or who wanted to stop me.
Playing Tega’s words in my head over and over again intensified the tears. How dare he lie to me? How dare he say genotype has nothing to do with love when I lost my 16-year-old sister to sickle cell anemia three years ago.
Reliving the death of my little sister and the love that was shattered, I wept, holding my heart firmly like it was going to burst in any minute.
So much for a perfect date.
