It is also true at some levels. I did not know of any security guard dying on campus, but I did meet more than one who got injured trying to do their jobs. They served as lessons for the rest.
Without any kind of protection, and with all the impunity they saw around, some of them became complicit in the crimes.
They ended up representing the ultimate decomposition a society can experience when subjected to populism, corruption, and fear.
