This week's ZAPFIC Monday challenge centers around the prompt "stubborn" and presented the opportunity to explore the effects of being what my parents would say of me, "stubborn as a mule". I wouldn't have called it stubborn. Perhaps knowing my own mind and not veering from it at an early age I'd call determined. Unfortunately, they didn't share my views. The consequences of my defiance was swift and sometimes unpleasant. But I stood my ground.
Only after reaching adulthood did I understand the usefulness of the word "compromise". It has taken me father than stubbornness. But we live and learn, hopefully. I share my version of the word applied to many of my family members who share the same trait.
The ZAPFICMonday challenge was created by @felt.buzz and consists of a story told in 240 characters or less. Quite a feat to accomplish. My story is below:

Hannah, the family's obstinate elderly aunt, was both feared and revered.
Ten years ago, her husband died. Children followed. She refused intervention,
so her family demanded welfare checks.
She died as requested, accompanied by her memories.

The "Original" ZapFic: Write a story using 240 characters OR less! Plus RESULTS from Last Week's ZapFic50 Contest!.

There are many things in life that we understand only after the passage of time. People keep explaining them to us, but we don't understand them. That is when we are young, but after the passage of time, slowly every truth comes to light.
Hopefully this is true for some of us. Not all will learn from our mistakes. Thanks for your visit. Take care.
