What a pity that the dragon felt lonely with no one else as a companion. In this case, no matter what surroundings you find yourself immersed in, loneliness may still prevail.
On the other hand, isolation is not always a bad thing. Some people prefer to be left alone with only themselves as company. This is called "solitude". This is a self-imposed isolation for a variety of reasons, such as to meditate or contemplate an issue, or as a stress reliever.
