In a town of this size, they were lucky to have four whole restaurants available to choose from, forgetting, of course, "restaurants" like McDonald's and little cafes and what-have-you. Jenny didn't want to have lunch at McDonald's though, no. She wanted have lunch here, at Barry's Bayside Bonanza.

It was an odd name given they weren't bayside — this was a mountain town — but Barry could name his restaurant whatever he wanted she supposed. Barry's Bayside Bonanza! An all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant that was freshly opened... and was quite fresh in stench, too.

She wrinkled her nose. She wasn't sure if it was her imagination or the reality of the situation, but the stench worsened every second she hovered outside this door. Arse. It smelt of pure and utter arse. It was as though the body odour of ten filthy men merged with the carcass of a rotting cow then finished with the pungent, sickly sweet smell of maggot excrement.

To say it was unpleasant was an understatement, but she couldn't move, she couldn't escape from this unholy cacophony of stench, she was glued to the path and forced to suffer, forevermore.

Inside the restaurant people were eating, drinking, laughing. Maybe it wasn't so bad in there. Maybe it was just bad out here, in the street, and had nothing to do with Barry or his Bonanza. The smell grew impossibly stronger and swarmed through her nostrils. She gagged. Maybe the inside of the restaurant was a safehaven that would shield her from this onslaught of odour.

Jenny tried to step forward, to shuffle her legs, to push through the door towards the freedom of seafood and cocktails and fresh air, but, glued to the cement, she was helpless.

"Hey, miss. You alright?"

Inwardly, she gaped. Could this stranger not smell this god awful stench? Of course she wasn't alright! She tried to turn around and stare incredulously, but, of course, she couldn't move.

"It. Smells. Like. Arse," she managed to choke out, before her vision turned to black and she fell across the path.

Joey? Is this where it all began? You're so good at this.

That would be a great "How we met" story! xD I originally had them knowing one another all their lives, from ye olde school days, but there's plenty of room for tweaking things.

🤣

I would have to agree with her, McDonald's is only meant for quick ice creams🤣
