Fledgling: Part 122

Greetings Readers!

I have no idea where this week went. I came up for air, and it was Thursday. Sorry for the super late update! Have an awesome day and enjoy the update!

The silence echoed once more as each Heavenly turned to look at the Eldest. He seemed to be considering this possibility.

“If this is the case, then the Dragon needs more.” He said softly.

“You would sacrifice more time, more planets, more lives? Asked someone.

“Would you have the Dragon free once more? Asked Shareik, pushing his own narrative.

There were mumbles once more, but silence fell when the Eldest raised his hand.

“Have Edzeeker make more of the creatures and ensure that the room keeps the Dragon sedated. The beast cannot be free until a champion is ready for it.” The Eldest then turned the Shareik. “Speaking of which, how is that coming along. Matta has informed me that you have a new interest. Interesting that you would choose a female. Champions and Dragons have always been males…”

“And where has that gotten us?”

Shareik hadn’t meant to snap at the Eldest, but it clearly had hit its mark. The Eldest dropped his gaze and nodded his head.

“Perhaps a change is good. And the System?”

“Improvements have been made for this species, but we are unsure as to whether it will work.”

“Then you'd best test it.”

Shareik nodded his head. He was annoyed at finding out that Matta had been talking to the Eldest, but he also knew that Matta had nothing to hide. And if Shareik wanted to avoid more suspicion, he would have to let this infraction go.

However, the Eldest now knew about the girl. Shareik couldn’t help but wonder which one he knew about. Matta had only ever met the one called Saita, and not the one who had become queen after what Edzeeker had done to her. No one knew about Kay. He had to protect her until she was ready to take up the mantle of Champion.

He knew he had too many pieces in this game, but the more advantages he had, the more control her would have. He needed to check on Kay. He needed to get her started on becoming a champion as soon as possible. Ishe had been free for too long.

“Oh, of course, Eldest. I am on it. In the meantime, could Matta be reassigned?”

“No.”

It was then that Shareik understood that the Eldest didn’t trust him, and that he would have to find a way past the surveillance that had just been placed on it.

“If he has the power to follow, then he may come. If not, he should stay.”

“Fair.” Said the Eldest as he waved his arm to dismiss the meeting before vanishing.

Shareik needed to get to Kay before Matta became aware that the meeting was over. He also wanted to stop in and ensure that Saita was recovering from her wounds.

He waited for all other Heavenly to disappear before he made his way to Kay’s time, but not the time he had left previously. No. He needed to move his plan along. If what he suspected was true, and the current Dragon was waking, he would need Kay ready, and soon.

Once he was in the correct place within the timeline, he made himself known to the soldier so that he could be taken to the General, and time had not been kind to the veteran soldier. The scar Kay had caused had twisted his face, and with age, it would seem the nerves never recovered.

Looking up, the General grinned and simply asked. “Is it time?”

Shareik nodded his head. This Champion. He was sure of it. This Champion would be the one. She had to be.

Saita watched Maxine watching her as Martin stitched the wound on her shoulder. She wasn’t speaking, and she wasn’t happy. Saita knew that scowl. Martin was also silent, working as diligently as possible to prevent infection and blood loss.

Saita had told them everything, except for the beasts that had hunted her before reaching Bolx and her son. The twins hadn’t known that part, and she wasn’t about to change history more than she already had.

They had listened. Maxine getting angrier, and Martin more stoic. She knew the reason. They wanted to know if she could have saved their world. But truthfully, their time was a necessary sacrifice that gave so much to Saita’s timeline and life. Even if she had had the power to arrive at the right time and fight back, Kay and her horde had no idea of the impact it would have made on time. However, she was sure that it wouldn’t have been good.

“And now we’re stuck on this planet with next to no food, no real resources, slowly freezing to death.” Snapped Maxine.

She wasn’t wrong. There was nothing here, but a planet was almost always in permafrost, with scattered packs of edible animals and predators big enough to pull a rhino off its feet. Growing food was out unless Saita could get the equipment needed for a greenhouse.

When she had come here the first time, she had spotted a green house around the back of the house, as well as the fully stocked pantry, and fuel for a generator. Then there was the house. This had taken a while to make and gather. She would have to remain with her to make sure that the twins were fully set up for what was to come. But what they needed exactly, she didn’t know. It felt as if she had brought them here to die. She hated herself for that.

Thanks for waiting. This weekend, I really want to delve into what Saita is going to do. Then we need to do a switch back to Kay, as her next piece has been done for months!
