RE: Day 1061: 5 Minute Freewrite: Wednesday - Prompt: bar stool

in Freewriters4 years ago

Saw this prompt yesterday and came up with this while off the net...

I had been looking around for about fifteen minutes until I found him. Oti. The best bet for a quality barstool. I asked for the price of making one. He told me 35 dollars. “I need ten”, I said. “I’ll pay you 25 for each.”

“That won’t do, the materials and labor costs won’t allow. Maybe 33 each, and I promise quality work, I bet that’s why you’re here,” He said.

“Ok, 30, ten stools.” I bargained. “I need them for kids doing technical drawing. Nothing too fancy.”

“32 dollars, take it or leave it. Below that, it won’t be worth my time,” Oti stood his ground.

His quote was a bit above my budget. I contemplated going to Kariz’s shop and try my chances there, but he’s known to be crafty.

Further down at Kariz’s, I found him and his crew talking animatedly, laughing over something amusing. They did not seem too busy. Since it was about lunch hour, I assumed they were on a break. “Hi Kariz, I need some bar stools, how much will It cost to make one? Nothing fancy, just a simple design fit for school kids on a drawing table.”

“Aah, that is simple!” he said, albeit with confidence. “One with a metal frame and wooden seat is 28 dollars. How many did you say you need?”

“I need 10, but I only have enough for 20 dollars per stool,” I had to test the waters...
