The Journey of No Return
Looking at the picture brings nothing but a tragic memory of how my uncle traveled to the world beyond without informing us.
My uncle is a military officer, he joined the Army 10 years before his death through the Direct Short Service (DSS) Recruitment. He dedicated his life to the nation and its citizens.
Last year in May my uncle visited the extended family to celebrate Grandpa's birthday. Every member of the family was present, including the grandchildren.
He brought gift items for Grandpa and the kids.
After the celebration, he spent two more days with the family which he claimed he greatly missed. I enjoyed the moment we spent together, he is jovial and strict as he doesn't condone any act of indiscipline. He was loved by the adults and the young ones, especially the kids. They love his kind gestures as he always buys snacks for the kids during his visit.
On the fourth day, he decided to report to his duty state in Nassarawa (a northern State in Nigeria, West Africa). We all bid him farewell and saw him off to the Motor Pack where he boarded a Bus going to his destination. We know we will surely miss him. The journey is up to 18 hours by road.
It was around 5:30pm on Monday when Uncle Mike received a shocking call from a hospital that my uncle had passed on. He couldn't believe his ears, so he decided to call back before sharing the news. The same thing was said when he called back.
On hearing the news I was sad and I wept as I knew I would not be able to see him again.
Thanks for reading through!!!
Ouch! That's a really big loss to the entire household. Death always comes like a thief and it hits hard whenever it happens.
This post pulls an emotional string.
Thanks for your response, it has to contain
Oh.... So sorry about that, may his soul continually find peace. Military men need our prayers often.
Thank you for sharing
That's quite sad. I'm sorry about his loss. Death is inevitable, but I pray he's having an eternal rest.
@chuksmeezy we have taken heart. We pray he has eternal rest 🙏
It is hard to lose a beloved uncle unexpectedly. It happened to me as well. After all these years I still miss him.
Thanks for joining.
