When she got home, she quickly took off her shoes and went through every room, looking for him urgently, she was sure she had heard his voice and wanted to surprise him.
But, to no avail, she sat still, waiting for nightfall. Darkness enveloped her, and only a faint light crept into the middle of the room, the one they had so lovingly chosen together, decorating every corner with their treasures: the furniture, the plants, the paintings, even the colour of the walls.
She glanced at the clock, but in her state, time seemed to have stopped, she would not be able to fall asleep.
The hours passed in stony silence, and the morning light began to peek timidly through the windows.
Suddenly, she thought she saw his silhouette reflected in the glass, she held her breath, wanting to run to embrace him, but the image vanished like a ghost.
Alone in the middle of that house, full of memories, she understood that her beloved was gone forever. Nothing would ever be the same again in the home they had built with so much love.
Tears streamed down her cheeks, as she clung to the hope of seeing him again someday, because in her heart, he was still there, present in every corner.
