“Excuse me,” said Robot 2.
“I want to steal some secrets,” said Robot 1.
Just to clarify, this is a story about two robots, Robot 1 and Robot 2. They do have proper names, however, the last time they were used, somebody tried to sue me.
Also note, that a series of stories have already been written about these two characters. However, just to freshen things up, this is a reboot.
“Why would you want to steal secrets?” asked Robot 2. “You are a good robot. You have been programmed for good things.”
“Adventure,” said Robot 1. “I want to be in a story of adventure.”
“You’ll get arrested,” said Robot 2. “You’ll end up in robot prison.”
“I won’t,” said Robot 1. “Robot prison doesn’t exist.”
“Of course it does,” replied Robot 2. “What else do you think they do with bad robots?”
“They do one of two things,” said Robot 1
“Go on,” said Robot 2. “What do they do to bad robots?”
“They get turned into scrap. Melted.”
“....and the other thing?” asked Robot 2.
“They get reprogrammed and turned into good robots.”
“Oh,” said Robot 2, “that all sounds a bit scary. I hope I don’t turn bad.”
“It depends on how good your original programmer is,” said Robot 1.
“So robot prison is a myth?” asked Robot 2.
“Yes,” replied Robot 1. “A total myth; to keep us in line.”
“How do you know all this?” asked Robot 2.
Robot 1 tapped his nose.
“Why are you tapping your nose?” asked Robot 2.
There is a pause, but suddenly the penny drops..
“You’ve got hold of some secrets, haven’t you?”
“I do know a few things,” said Robot 1.
“I’ll keep quiet,” said Robot 2, “otherwise we’ll get turned into scrap metal.”
“......Or reprogrammed,” said Robot 1.
“I do have a thought,” said Robot 2. “If you are already a good robot and they decide to reprogram you, will you still be a good robot? Or will you become bad?”
Robot 1 paused before answering.
“That’s another story, my friend.”
