What's In A Hole?

What is a pigeon hole I wondered aloud.
No do-gooders with fairly sourced coffee came to my aid
No cedar waxwings alighted on the fence post
but a pileated woodpecker did peck a hole
or ten
in the exposed wood of my neighbor's shed
Do pigeons drill holes in city pavements?
Are they a nuisance to roofs?
A danger to garden plots?

Perhaps that is what left a huge hole in my veggie plot
or maybe it was my dog
because I have never seen a pigeon here

Mockingbirds yes
Mourning doves yes
Hummingbirds on a good day
Bluebirds, swallows, sparrow, crows and
Robins galore
A cardinal just
swooped across the airspace outside my window
behind which I sit typing
a bit of this or that
about pigeon holes

Have I pigeon holed pigeons?
or woodpeckers or waxwings?

Have I trapped myself in this chair
writing drivel
again?

I've misplace the gift,
temporarily I hope,
of letting words spew out
letting stories tell themselves

In my quest to stop thinking at all
I find I am thinking too much

I pigeon holed myself

Thanks for the chat
