Amanda's advice kept echoing in Nelly's mind: "Don't contact him," no matter what. It's been three weeks since her breakup with Simon.
Nelly kept staring at her phone in her dark, quiet room. The urge to call Simon is almost unbearable; she missed being with him; she missed his laughter and lame jokes; she missed his company; she missed having those intellectual conversations with him, and most importantly, she missed how he made her feel important and valued her like she was the only girl in the world.
Within her, she wondered what went wrong. They were a perfect match; they were meant for each other (or so she thought), and they were admired by their friends. With tears in her eyes, she took a deep breath. She looked at the last message he sent to her, which read, "I don't think I can do this again; it's over between us, goodbye."
She wiped the tears off her face, deleted his number and everything that would remind her of him, whispered within herself, and said, This is my moment, a chance for me to find my own path and strength.
And in that quiet, resolute moment, Nelly knew she'd be strong and would be okay.
