Jimmy Kimmel's return and Free Speech

in Freewriters7 days ago

Jimmy Kimmel's successful return to his show and how quickly he was returned is a total win for free speech. He opened the show by clarifying that it was never his intention to make light of the murder of a young man, that young man being Charlie Kirk of course.

He tried to stress on the point that apparently, his words had been misinterpreted, stating that it was also not his intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what was obviously a deeply disturbed individual.

The main reason for his suspension was the comments he passed following the tragic death of the conservative activist, Charlie Kirk. He had six days off the air, and that suspension became a major talking point in the topic of free speech.

One very profound thing Jimmy Kimmel said was that his show is not important, what is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like his, that is, the ability to bring out your honest opinions about matters.

I would add that, in as much as free speech is very necessary, what we choose to say is also very important. If we also don't put some boundaries regarding insults, disrespect and blatant humiliation, people in the name of free speech will do things that are not right. Not talking about Jimmy Kimmel though.

In the same return show, Jimmy Kimmel even thanked his ideological opponents, those that are not in agreement with his beliefs.

  • The Statement he made

“I want to thank the people who don’t support my show and what I believe, but support my right to share those beliefs anyway.”

Free speech goes beyond which political side you're on, it's really about the freedom to disagree with people's views without getting silenced. If we allow the government to control what can or can't be said on television, democracy and true freedom will not exist eventually. I do agree with Jimmy Kimmel when he said we have to stand up to it and I believe at every point, we need to fight for our right to free speech.

  • Another statement that got me so disturbed

I’ve met entertainers in countries where they would get thrown in prison for making fun of those in power. They know how lucky we are here.

It's a blessing to have the freedom of speech, we should advocate for it at all times and do whatever we can to maintain this freedom, this free press.

I'm happy he made his comeback, not just about the fact that we get to have Jimmy Kimmel again, honestly I wasn't paying attention to his shows till after the whole story of he getting suspended, so he probably did get more attention, that's like a good side to the situation.

Well now that he's back and free speech is getting advocacy, what has he said recently?

He has noticed that his poll "A toenail in your salad" has better numbers than the president's poll and pointed that out on a recent show.

He seems to be getting more views ever since he returned, no surprise there, everyone wanted to hear what he had to say next.
