A Five-Minute Writing Prompt: Missing Flavour

in Freewriters2 days ago

I was supposed to post this yesterday, yet I don't know if it's just me, but suddenly I can't open my account. It said there's some kind of error—server, I think—and even with multiple attempts I wasn't able to log in. And so I left it for today, but things got busy, and yeah—it took time when I finally got back to it. So here's another attempt to make a decent five-minute prompt with the ever-thrilling The Most Dangerous Writing App.

Enjoy!

The bell rang signaling the end of their last period.

She smiled widely when she saw her watch.

'Just in time', she thought.

She immediately got her bag and went out their noisy room.

She easily maneuvered her way towards the narrowed alleys, and after minutes of running and skipping, she finally reached her destination.

Her mouth began to salivate when she saw the familiar signage in front the small eatery.

The smell of fried rice wafted when she entered their small door.

But even if she didn't sat yet, she sensed something is wrong.

She noticed that Uncle Chen isn't in the kitchen.

'He must be up to something', she thought as she made herself comfortable with the small chair in the corner.

"One fried rice, please", she asked loudly.

The waiter at that moment immediately got her order and went to the kitchen to get it.

It wasn't long when she got it, but the moment the first grain of rice hit her taste bud, she tasted that it wasn't Uncle Chen's usual fried rice.

'It was not the usual flavour', she silently complained.

But she got no choice because no food must go to waste. She ate all of it and drowned the unfamiliar taste with her favorite soda.

'Some other time...I'll definitely taste my favorite fried rice again.'
