Mud in the Eye

Ada was on her way home after the rain. The road was messy, and every step made her slippers splash. Suddenly, a passing bike threw mud right into her eye. She stopped, wiped her face, and sighed. “Maybe today just wants to test my mood,” she said quietly. When she got home, she told her mother what happened and said she didn't just want anything to vex her, that she wanted to return home happy. Her mother handed her a towel, and said, “At least the mud didn’t reach your heart.” Ada smiled widely and muttered "some days bring mud in the eye, but peace in the heart makes everything clean again" as she hugged her mother tightly.
