It appeared high in the sky, already in motion. No one saw where it came from. It was an elegant fall, slow and steady. Its shape was still, almost straight, a dark silhouette against the pale sky. Long hair drifted around its head, moving in no clear direction, untouched by any wind below.
People noticed, then stopped noticing anything else. There was nothing loud or sudden about it, yet no one could look away. It did not struggle. It simply came down controlled and certain. There was something final in it, but not like an ending, more like a beginning of the end.
Then others began to appear.
At first, only one or two were far above, barely visible. Then more, spaced across the sky, each one the same shape. But they did not feel equal. The first one remained ahead, lower than the rest, untouched by them.
The sky grew heavy with them. And as they continued to descend.
They had finally reached Earth.
