Las plataformas petrolíferas fueron construidas con un único fin, extraer petróleo en el mar y gas natural. Mediante un estudio previo de la zona y detectar que existen yacimientos de estos, se procederá a construir plataformas encargadas de extraerlos. Estas las más utilizadas diría que son las fijas, las que están ancladas al suelo, pero también hay las flotantes, las sumergibles y otros que desconocía hasta que busqué imágenes y son los buques perforadores construidos especialmente para la actividad.
Estas estructuras suelen ser gigantes, y su construcción puede durar de meses a años. Las plataformas están diseñadas para abarcar a más de un centenar de personas, donde hacen su vida en medio de un mar y en medio de la nada. Algunas plataformas como ven en la imagen cuentan con antenas de comunicación que les permite comunicarse con una torre de control o en caso de emergencias.
No sé si todas las estructuras cuentan con helipuertos para casos de emergencia, supondría que sí, y al estar conectadas entre sí, supongo que una estará destinada a eso igualmente una escalera de mano para salidas en caso de emergencia. El tema de los alimentos supongo que serán repuestos por barcos, y la comida tiene que ser no perecedera, para que se pueden almacenar mucha comida, mientras el barco va y viene.
El agua que es tan importante para el consumo y mantenimiento de las instalaciones, supondría que en una estructura existe una herramienta que cumpla con el proceso de desalinización del agua, y la energía que usan sería el mismo gas que extraen, por supuesto, con el tratamiento adecuado para generar energía eléctrica que también usan para la plataforma y las auxiliares que están conectadas.

Oil platforms were built for a single purpose, to extract offshore oil and natural gas. By means of a previous study of the area and detecting that there are oil and gas deposits, platforms will be built to extract them. I would say that the most used are the fixed ones, the ones anchored to the ground, but there are also floating ones, submersibles and others that I did not know about until I looked for images and they are the drilling vessels built especially for the activity.
These structures are usually gigantic, and can take months to years to build. The platforms are designed to hold more than a hundred people, where they make their lives in the middle of a sea and in the middle of nowhere. Some platforms as you see in the picture have communication antennas that allow them to communicate with a control tower or in case of emergencies.
I do not know if all the structures have helipads for emergency cases, I would assume so, and being connected to each other, I guess that one will be intended for that also a ladder for emergency exits. The issue of food I suppose it will be replenished by ships, and the food has to be non-perishable, so that you can store a lot of food, while the ship comes and goes.
The water that is so important for the consumption and maintenance of the facilities, I would assume that in a structure there is a tool that meets the process of desalination of water, and the energy they use would be the same gas they extract, of course, with the appropriate treatment to generate electricity that they also use for the platform and the auxiliaries that are connected.
