Vampire

Eve stretched on her towel and the evening sun stroked her tanned skin, as she gazed into the sunset and listened to the calm waves of the ocean, thinking how nice it is that her kind became immune to the Sun all those years ago.

Feeling grateful that humans still thought about vampires as the pasty white, night dwelling creatures. This way it was easier to blend in, not being judged or feared, it was a lonesome life she led. It was quite painful for the eyes that got so used to the darkness, to see anything in the blazing daylight, but after 786 years on this earth, she developed her ability to adapt to almost anything. The things those eyes saw couldn't be put in a sentence, what's a bit of sunlight for them, she thought as she adjusted the sunglasses better on her perfectly shaped nose.

The beach was empty, only a few would dare to venture out in this pandemic. Eve loved it! She was determined to stick to her diet and try the new way of eating only animal blood. She would try to concentrate on her book as if reading is the only thing left after all those years, but a breath of wind brought a sweet smell right up to her nostrils, tickling the imagination and memories.

She resisted the urge to look around and find out where that amazing fresh smell is coming from, but the wind kept carrying new waves, bathing her in lustful smell and leaving her once more to fight the hunger. If only she didn't know what pleasure it was to feel the fresh blood rushing through your mouth, blending seamlessly with her being and giving it bursts of energy along with the images from the entire life of the human.

It's the images she missed the most, living life through others in a quite literal way. Seeing what they saw, feeling what they felt, even if it was just for a second. Emotions were taken from her when her heart stopped beating and this was the only way to feel anything, other than eternal hunger.

Eve took one more, deep and fulfilling breath, closed her eyes, and listened to the waves as they crashed the nearby rocks, hoping it would help her to remain calm. But the crashing sound wasn't strong enough to overpower the sound of a beating heart that was getting too close to resist. She opened her eyes and gave in to hunger, just one more time.

With love,
Tamara
