The Softest Corner Of The Internet

in Freewriters2 days ago

There are days when humanity feels heavy, days when the world feels pregnant with tragedy, cruelty and exhaustion. And then there are days like the one I had yesterday, when a random scroll on TikTok turns into something unexpectedly tender.

I scroll Tiktok everyday, looking for nothing specific. I just do it the way everyone else does I guess when they want to keep their minds busy. But then a woman appeared on my screen asking for something. She wasn’t asking for much though, no donations but something simple. Her caption said “Please stay at least one minute so I can earn money to save my baby.”

She didn’t make use of dramatic music or theatrics. Just her, a mother, tired-eyed with her sick son, bedridden, with oxygen pressed to his face but she was hopeful, fighting for her child the only way she could.

So I stayed.

And while the seconds ticked by, I wandered into the comments, the digital heartbeat of the internet. That’s when I stumbled one of the comments that somehow felt like a hug:

“Fill this can with kisses.”

It was whimsical. Random. Soft. In all honesty, the comment section of that post was a little universe of kindness. People dropped kiss emojis, hearts, encouraging words, little digital pecks floating into the woman’s virtual can. That single comment had already gathered 15k likes, and the replies were even sweeter.

Everyone was playing along, contributing nothing more than seconds of their time and a few emojis, but somehow it felt like more. It was literally witnessing humanity at its best, strangers uniting not for drama, not for gossip, hate, but just to help a mother in need reach her goal.

A can full of kisses, who would’ve thought three simple words could hold so much warmth?

My fyp on Tiktok is 70 percent filled with toxic stuff almost like an X feed so coming across a post where there was nothing like cruelty, a post where people united to dig in the pocket of internet gentleness, left me in awe and my eyes gleamed with tears of excitement. Because that is absolutely beautiful.

Well, love doesn’t have to be grand gestures. Little acts of kindness like strangers from different parts of the world, filling an imaginary can with virtual kisses in hopes that a real baby somewhere gets another chance to live is love in its purest form. And that, to me, is worth holding onto.

Not only is the story beautiful, but the way you wrote about it touched my heart. That is what this world needs more of.
