Joe sat on his bed, reading a comic book. Why couldn't this stuff happen to him? Super punch, laser eyes, invisibility. He would have them all if he could. Nothing ever exciting happened to him. Just the same old life, going to school, reading comic books, eating, whatnot.
If he had been paying attention, he would have noticed the muscular man fly by his window. Or the micro-scopic war happening under his bed. Or the fatal duel between a man made of water against a woman with super strength. But he just sat there, picking toe jam from his foot, reading the comic.
Later that day, when he was walking home from school, a figure dropped from the sky and ran with super sonic speed into a dark ally. All Joe saw was that he was on Brooklyn Street going onto Maple, eyes glued to a new movie poster about super heroes.
Shame, thought a man watching Joe, if only Joe remembered what had happened. Then the man walked away to disappear into a summoned portal. And Joe saw not one thing.
