Hello, friends of the Freewriters community, and Hivers, in general!
This is my entry to the Writing Prompt by @mariannewest for 25 November 2025, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2932: invisible dog.
“Woof, woof!”.
He heard the “dog” barking in the back room.
The young lad really thought that there was a dog in there.
At least, this is what the old shopkeeper wanted him to believe.
“Woof, woof!”.
In fact, it was the shopkeeper himself mimicking a barking dog, every time he turned his face away from the child.
“You haven’t got a dog in there!”, the kid said.
“Oh, you’d better believe there is a dog in there! It’s the invisible dog!”.
The boy was left speechless with the shopkeeper’s ingenuity, since the latter had devised a way to make potential shoplifters scared of an imaginary dog.
