Hello again, members of the Freewriters community, and Hive, in general!
This is my entry to the Writing Prompt by @mariannewest for 6 December 2025, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2943: losing control.
He had started a small business working from home.
Nothing impressive or extravagant.
To put it simply, he worked as a translator, namely a freelancer.
He started paying tax and national insurance contributions as a sole proprietor.
At first, things went fairly well, and he could make ends meet.
With the onset of the pandemic, his business struggled, and he also suffered at a personal level and emotionally.
There were not as many translation projects and orders available to him as before.
As a result, he started staying behind his tax and other obligations.
At some point, he had to admit it.
He was losing control.
He had obviously taken a downward turn that many other small businesses had taken before him.
He hoped that he could avoid it.
At all costs, he didn’t want to end up another business failure...
