5 Minute Freewrite: Sunday - Prompt: farm fresh produce

in Freewriters4 years ago

"You ready, Chris?"

"Like the sunshine at dawn, Maverick."

"I told you to stop calling me that." Kyle tipped his sunglasses down with his finger and looked at Chris. Kyle, tired of the long nights with Chris, waited for an answer.

Chris shifted in his seat. Something in Kyle's voice was different. What it was he couldn't put his finger on. Different ever since his night with the Greeto's family.

"You know I'm just playing but yeah, Kyle. Got it."

Chris grabbed his drink, made from farm-fresh produce spiked with a little bit of Jack D to help with the jitters, and took a gulp. Maybe he should have stayed home but he needed the money.

They watched the house. Nearby neighbors started to pulled out of their driveways and go on about their days. The last to leave were the Flutters, the targets of the next home invasion. It took them ten minutes to stop arguing over something that was drop in front of the car and then when they got into the car, they rolled down the window and proceeded to throw a fist or two or couple of minutes before the car was put into drive and took off.

Chris swallowed the last little bit of juice left in the bottle. "I thought I was going to have to go get another round."

"Shut up. Get out. Let's get this over with."

"I don't like your attitude." Kyle felt the liquid courage speak for him. He thought about backing down for a split second but he liked the feeling of sticking up for himself.

"Look, Punk, if this doesn't go as planned you know what is going to happen to me."

"That means you should be nicer to me because, if I walk out, you can't get it done."

Kyle's face scrunched up like he had suddenly turned into an old man and his face turned red. Chris imagined steam coming out from his ears like a cartoon who ate the red hot chile.

"Chill, Dude," said Chris. After tightening the lid and tossing the empty bottle on the floor, he opened the door and got out. Kyle did the same. They both took a look around to see if anyone was watching. Convinced they were safe they went around to the back of the Flutter's house. There was a pool with a diving board. A trampoline, Some dog toys.

"Shit man," said Chris. You didn't say there were going to be dogs.

"No, I didn't. I knew you would have woosed out."

"I break out in hives when I'm around dogs for too long. Do you have any idea what that is like?"

"If you stop talking and concentrate on getting what we need, then we'll be out of here before you know it."

After scurrying up the stairs, they broke into the back door with the crowbar Kyle had in his hand. Kyle threw down the crowbar to protect himself from an oncoming blow from a stick with a point, but he was late. He was stabbed in the leg and fell to the ground/ Chris charged in from behind, breaking down the door with hir foot.

The door, wired to a booby trap, swung open. A click was heard. A voice called out from the wall's intercom - "Massive Security Danger."
