Do you know Ester Duplo, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States? She is a female economist.
In 2019, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics, along with Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kramer, for her experimental approach and research to alleviate global poverty.
In her acceptance speech, she said.
"I want more women to enter the workforce, and I want men to give women the respect they deserve," she said in her acceptance speech.
The fact that the Nobel Prize in Economics has been awarded to a woman in a decade is encouraging, but paradoxically, it also highlights the fact that women have been thoroughly underrepresented in economics.
"The reason why so few women have won the Nobel Prize is not because the people who give it don't care about women, but because the pathways in economics are not sufficiently open to minorities," said Dr. Duplo.
Sexism against women must end.
