Hey guys, welcome. This is Val Campbell. Thank you for joining me on my Sunday Morning Leadership here today. I'm going to talk about building confidence and success.

And just real briefly, what's that look like? It's a journey that I'm on. It's still a personal journey for me, so I wanted to take some time to relay some things I'm going back through, still learning and growing. And it's from Tony Hotler's book, “Impossible to Fail”. And you know, he says some interesting things here. Three main points I'm going to hit, but don't let your temporary excuses, your limiting beliefs, and denials become your permanent identity, right?
So confidence, he knows, is the passport to success in your personal and professional life. I've got to agree. When your confidence and self-esteem is high, you have more control of your personal work and work circumstances, don't you? Confidence provides the strength to tackle these challenges, and I think that's so true. He knows that one thing that every successful person has is that they operate in a place of authentic confidence. And that's huge, guys. You know the link between confidence and success, right?

What is confidence? He says that confidence is the feeling that you can trust what you and or others do. It's about having faith in what you can do instead of worrying about what you can't and having the willingness to learn from successes and failures. And I think that really kind of mindset ties into here as well. You know, mindset being the established set of attitudes held by someone, held by ourselves. And research shows, you know, that it's the way that we think about our ability that really counts, right? Do we have a fixed or growth mindset? Mindset really gets down to, what do I believe that I'm capable of? What do you believe that you're capable of, right? And that's kind of where it is.
The link between confidence and success is this: confidence is about trust, okay? People with true confidence focus on their strengths. And that's so true. We've heard John Maxwell say that: don't try to focus on your weaknesses, focus on your strengths. Get better at what you're really good at, what you excel at.
So three points here real quick, okay? How do you build true confidence? Well, the first thing he notes is to minimize self-doubt, okay? And I can say I've been there and done that, been there done that, too many times. By focusing on what you can, where you can go for positive outcomes, rather than what can go wrong or negative outcomes. Much of self-doubt comes from past situations where performance or outcomes were not as good as hoped. I could say that, guys. In my life and my previous experience in the insurance industry, is that I did, I really achieve all I could, all it was possible of achieving? No. But self-doubt comes when you don't achieve what you think you're capable of or what you want to. And but you got to ask the question, did I really fail? What can I learn from the experience? Okay, there's a big clue there. And then, what can I do better next time? That's what I'm looking at when I make a change here with where I'm at and what I'm gonna be doing. But conquering the fear of failure is an important step in building confidence, right? Confidence building, huge.

Secondly, accept yourself. Okay, before you accept others, before other people accept you, you've got to accept yourself. It's a choice. Self-acceptance, guys, it's huge. Again, if you don't believe in yourself and your abilities, your mindset says, "Well, I don't really think I can do it." Nobody can control that, right? Nobody can help that, right? It starts with you. It starts with me. Do we believe in ourselves? A fear of rejection and seeking acceptance from others is huge, and we have to get beyond that, right? What others think about us isn't as important as what we think about ourselves.
And lastly, remember these words: commit and deliver. You know, confident people don't commit to something they cannot deliver, right? You're setting yourself up for failure and creating self-doubt and limiting your confidence because if you make promises you don't deliver on, guess what? You not only let others down, but your subconscious mind gets the message that you're not aligned with what you say and do. So in the long term, this affects self-esteem.
Lastly, guys, I got back into... I started, I wrote down some affirmations I'm starting to read these, working on every day. I missed a couple days here, but: I'm capable of a successful business if I put my mind to it. I can learn those skills and get ahead. Things like, being financially savvy is a skill that can be developed and I can do that. I won't know the extent of my powers until I give it everything I have. I can make things change. I create my own wealth. Guys, this is huge.
Just how do you build self confidence and success? You got to start. It starts with your mindset, your self-belief. But speaking and saying things that will help you and getting around people that build you up. Get away from people that want to tear you down, the Doubting Thomases, that type of thing that's going to take you down. You've got to get around people that believe in you, that uplift you, support you, that empower you. That's what leadership is all about. That's why I'm talking about this today. Leadership is about empowering others, but it's also about sharing personal journeys.
Guys, I am very much on this journey right now, jumping into a new career here pretty shortly, which I'm excited about. But yeah, I I've got to have confidence and success to believe I'm going to do it.

So guys, last two questions: how can you increase your confidence and success? And then, what are some of the limiting beliefs that you hold that might keep you from having true confidence and success? I'd like to hear back on that. Thanks for joining me, guys. As always, I hope you have an awesome Sunday. Bye.
