Forgiveness

In the stillness of early morn,
where shadows soften, and birdsong
fills me with the courage,
to let go of burdens, set my heart free -

you forgave me.

My life is sewn with threads of pain,
I pick out the patterns, I see the stains
each salty tear traced,
each constriction of my heart,
I follow the path,
the lesson is stark,
forgiveness is the key.

The times that I’ve put my foot in my mouth
my needy, arrogant, delusional self.
Turning crimson as the sky
I bury my head,
wondering why
I turn over
the words that I’ve said.
Kicking myself
and feeling so bled.

Under the weight of a thousand desires,
tempting fleeting flames,
which always backfires.
Coiled tight.
A rustle of regret for the wrongs
my past can’t erase,
and the times that I’ve flung our love in your face -

yet still, you forgave me.

Let the dawn break with its pink hue,
the past cowers but not for you,
for in your acceptance my feelings sing,
turning grey Winter to Spring.

So here is my life, stitches untied,
broken, defeated and hospitalised.
I reach out to hold you,
as the dark turns to dawn
at last in my own eyes
the heart’s deepest longing
finally -

I forgive me.

I felt every word you said. This is powerful and sad at the same time.
Beautiful 💜
