We All Gotta Eat
A little more and a little less,
If I had some more would I give, or would I leave?
It is hard to say until the moment comes
After all, we all gotta eat.
Doing right and doing wrong,
Is today the time for the first, or for the second?
When people ask, I tell what I believe
But is it me, or just a suggestion?
Taking this one and taking another,
Doesn't matter which, or it means everything?
Taking one path, means to lose all others
Is it freedom, or destiny?
Sometimes a winner and often a loser,
Wished for different, or got what I deserve?
Tried to succeed, but welcomed failure
Is it just me, or do all feel this way?
Did it all and found nothing,
Scraping the bottom, or the highest ceiling?
The best for one, is the least for many,
Forgive me, we all gotta eat.

- Read and discuss with others who comment and build your personal network
- Engage well with me and others and put in effort
And you may be rewarded.
This is kind of part of the reason I started upvoting comments on my posts. I realize that the $.03 doesn't mean to much to a lot of people, but for some it is a huge deal.
Exactly. Reward for participating and engaging in the community, and encouragement to start to build more here through increasing participation, comments, posts, voting on others. If more of them powered up, they would soon realise the true power of it.
I totally agree. Plus you are just ensuring that you are going to make more in the future. It's crazy how short sighted people are.
Yeah it is crazy, and getting crazier. The cost of our behaviour is going to be very high.
The game of life is a brutal one and one is often required to make compromises to achieve survival. Making a choice means forsaking many others, and sometimes, in the end, the choice we made fails. But we must survive, we all gotta eat, whatever it takes.
Sometimes I wonder what is my limit in me eating - what am I willing to do and where is the line? I feel that my line arrives before many others these days.
Hmm, human struggle is real. Each of everyone of us is going through one or two. It is sad to see that we struggle to gather and gather but only to leave it behind without even knowing who is beneficial from it.
We just have to do our best and be there for the people who will love and ensure we are happy at all times, no matter the circumstances. This life is not ours. We are just here tentatively.
Which raises the question whether we should live a good life, or a life where we just do as we please.
Survival or selfish, immoral choices? Our primary goal is survival. We can achieve this without being selfish. There's no need for immorality. Selfishness and immorality are used to achieve better, to have better opportunities. They don't stand in the way of survival.
I think much the same - but when the incentives to be immoral are so far greater than to be a valuable part of growing a community, selfish wins.
I think the decisions we take usually involve giving something up, and it is simple to forget what really counts while we are busy trying to get by.
Every choice has a lot of opportunity-cost involved. Can we live without decisions guilt-free, without being psychopaths?
That part about choosing one route and letting the rest go really hit me. In budgets it is just oPPortunity cost dressed in numbers, and choosing feels like success for one line and a cut for the rest, which never feels beter :) I keep telling myself thsi is how we learn where we stand, but yeah, we all gotta eat and sometimes the stomach wins over ideals.
Every moment we are making a decision to be the kind of person we want to be, or the kind of person our default dictates. The second is far easier, but is it the best opportunity?
Default is like autopilot on a budget, it keeps you safe but it rarely puts money where value really grows. Choosing the harder path feels costly now, yet over time it can compound into better choices, kind of like paying yourself first even when your hungry :) If the price today is small ethics cuts to survive, the interest on that debt can come due later and it narrow our future self. How do you nudge your default toward less short term comfort and more of who you want to be?
This is off topic but is your brother Galen doing alright? I don't recall the last time he missed a day of posting or making a prompt for Weekend-Engagement topics.
I think he is alright, just busy perhaps. You can ask him directly.
An interesting poem that leads us to reflect on what has evidently been transcendental throughout history.
Thank you for sharing it!
Do you take anything away from it?
Of course. Beyond reflecting on each decision and defining who we are, there's an underlying theme that moves thought through the emotion that every poem conveys.
the winner takes it all! :P
starting to believe..
