Sparkling from Italy: Prosecco and more ENG/ITA

in Cheers2 years ago

Italian sparkling are not only Prosecco!
Many territories of Italy produce excellent sparkling wines, as demonstrated in this lesson for future sommeliers in Rome.
We started with a Prosecco brut (Glera grapes) by Cantine Bortolotti: fresh fruit on the nose, light body, funny bubbles and a very balanced taste.
After we tasted a vintage classic method of Lazio made from Bellone grapes, Korì Pas Dosé 2016 by Cincinnato: nose with rich hints of yeast and croissants, on the palate good structure and persistence, and very elegant bubbles.
Finally, a rosé classic method of Pojer and Sandri (Trentino Alto Adige) from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes: delicate aromas of flowers and fruit, very linear palate and good flavor, pleasing effervescence.
Three wines, two production methods, three regions and four different grapes for a very interesting journey in Italian sparkling wines. And have you ever had a taste of this, guy?

Sort:

Only sparking from Italy I've ever tried is various Prosecco and Lambrusco. Sounds like the 2016 is traditional method, any idea how long they did tirage? They don't sell it here, but probably amazing. I love finding out about new bubbles :)

In the case of the Classic Method Kori of Cincinnato the tirage is about 48 months (degorgement 2021) while for the Rosè I think it is approximately 18/24 months (no degorgement in the label).
Unfortunately these are small productions (but abroad you can find important Italian Classic Method like Franciacorta and Trento) so it is difficult to taste them outside of Italy but... hopefully things will get better in the future!

Now that is a party! !wine
