Our trip along Route 7 in Chile had begun, and the great thing about planning it spontaneously was that we never knew exactly where we'd be sleeping that day. The first day on land after four days on the boat found us with beautiful weather, so we decided camping would be a good option. Along the way, we found a sign that said "camping" and indicated a detour off the route, and we blindly trusted it and went. The element of surprise was great, too, so we blindly allowed ourselves to go in to see what it was all about 😃.
Nuestro viaje por la Ruta 7 en Chile había empezado y lo bueno de hacerlo improvisadamente era que nunca sabíamos exactamente en donde íbamos a dormir ese día. El primer día en tierra firme después de los cuatro días arriba del barco nos encontró con un clima hermoso, por lo que decidimos que sería buena opción acampar. En el camino, encontramos un cartel que indicaba "camping" y señalaba un desvío de la ruta, y ciegamente confiamos en él y fuimos. El factor sorpresa estaba bueno también, así que nos permitimos ir ciegamente a ver de qué se trataba 😃.
This stretch of the Carretera Austral, starting from Puerto Yungay, was gravel in good condition. This type of road was very easy to navigate, but when we took the detour to the campsite, the road was no longer in such good condition. Nevertheless, the little Suzuki took us slowly but surely, and we encountered some beautiful landscapes.
Este tramo de la Carretera Austral, partiendo desde Puerto Yungay, era de ripio en buen estado. Este tipo de calle era muy fácil de transitar, pero cuando tomamos el desvio hacia el camping, la calle ya no estaba en tan buenas condiciones. Sin embargo, el pequeño Suzuki nos llevó lento pero seguro, y nos encontramos con unos paisajes hermosos.
We'd traveled a few kilometers, crossing bridges of dubious safety, but we still couldn't see where the campsite was. There was always the option of turning back, but there was still plenty of daylight left, so we decided to keep going. There weren't many people living around, so sooner or later we'd find the campsite.
Habremos hecho algunos cuantos kilómetros atravesando puentes de dudosa seguridad, pero seguíamos sin ver en donde estaba en camping. Siempre estaba la opción de volver, pero todavía quedaba mucha cantidad de luz del día, así que decidimos seguir adelante. No había mucha gente viviendo por ahí, así que tarde o temprano encontraríamos el camping.
At one point, the road was blocked off by a gate, and we had to get out of the car to ask if we could cross. We saw some stray animals, but nothing dangerous, until we met a girl who told us that this was the campsite we were looking for. At first glance, it didn't look like a place to camp, but after driving us to the riverbank, we discovered a cabin, some tables, and bathrooms.
Llegó un momento en el que la calle se cerró con una tranquera, y tuvimos que bajarnos del auto para preguntar si se podía pasar. Vimos algunos animales sueltos, pero nada peligrosos, hasta que nos encontramos con una chica quién nos indicó que ese era el camping que estábamos buscando. A simple vista no parecía un lugar para acampar, pero después de llevarnos hasta la orilla del río, ahí descubrimos una cabaña, algunas mesas y baños.
This place had beds to sleep inside the cabin, or a camping area. Sleeping inside cost $15 per person, while camping was only $5. We were just starting our trip and didn't want to spend that much, so we stuck with our camping plan. The campground owner also allowed us to use the cabin's kitchen, which was quite rustic and fueled by firewood. The funny thing is that although we tried to start a fire, we never managed, so we ended up using the small gas stove we had brought with us.
Este lugar contaba con camas para dormir dentro de la cabaña o espacio para acampar. Dormir adentro costaba $15 por persona, mientras que por acampar solo eran $5. Recién empezaba nuestro viaje y no queríamos gastar tanto, así que seguimos con nuestro plan de acampar. Igualmente, la dueña del camping nos permitió usar la cocina de la cabaña, la cual era bastante rústica y se prendía con leña. Lo gracioso es que, aunque intentamos prender el fuego, nunca lo logramos así que terminamos usando la pequeña cocina a gas que llevábamos con nosotros.
As the sun went down, the unlit cabin, like the entire property, began to feel a little eerie. This campsite was completely rustic, almost like camping in nature, except for the bathroom. The place was magical during the day, but at night it was reminiscent of those horror movies where something bad was about to happen. The two of us were alone in the whole place because the owner lived in a field across the street, so we had to survive on our own. I won't deny that I was a little scared of the complete darkness, but at least the starry sky looked incredible, and nothing bad happened to us.
A medida que fue bajando el sol, la cabaña que no tenía luz, al igual que todo el predio, se fue volviendo un poco tenebrosa. Este camping era rústico por completo, casi como acampar en la naturaleza, a excepción del baño. El lugar de día era mágico, pero de noche recordaba a esas películas de terror en donde no faltaba mucho para que algo malo empezara a pasar. Los dos estábamos solos en todo ese lugar, porque la dueña vivía en un campo de enfrente, así que teníamos que sobrevivir por nuestra cuenta. No niego que tuve un poco de miedo de la completa oscuridad, pero al menos el cielo estrellado se vio increíble, y nada malo nos pasó.
The next morning, with the sun shining brightly, everything was beautiful again. Before leaving, we stopped by the owner's house, who invited us into her home and gave us a breakfast of tea, bread, and homemade jam. This was very generous of her, and since we had paid such a low price for the accommodation, we left her a tip. We were very pleased to have found this improvised accommodation: in the end, our simple choice paid off 😃.
A la mañana siguiente, con el sol radiante y en su punto alto, todo era hermoso otra vez. Antes de irnos, pasamos por la casa de la dueña, quien nos invitó a pasar a su hogar y nos regaló un desayuno de té, pan y dulce casero. Esto fue muy generoso de su parte, y ya que habíamos pagado un precio muy bajo por el alojamiento, le dejamos algo de propina. Nos gustó mucho haber encontrado este alojamiento improvisado: al final, nuestra elección sin tantas vueltas salió bien 😃.

Esto sí que es una aventura, ese puente da mucho miedo, pienso que caerá en cualquier momento 😨. Imagino que no dormiste en toda la noche, solo recordando esas películas de terror. Eso es mucha adrenalina para mí. Gracias a Dios nada les pasó y siguieron con el viaje.
Si, la verdad que el puente parecía estar en las últimas pero igual cruzamos sanos y salvos jaja. Fue toda una experiencia :)

Two people at this lone place definitely feels scary - I won't get sleep at all, unless influenced :) May be not mush business, could be the reason of poor maintenance.
It was a super secluded place off the main road, we saw the sign by chance so I guess that's why hardly anyone goes there. But at least it was quiet.
When the days are beautiful, camping is always a good option to save some money.
What an ordeal they had to go through to get to the campsite. Luckily, the vehicle they were traveling in took them there.
I can imagine the fear you must have felt when night fell in that remote place, and to top it all off, being alone with the two of them on the entire campsite.
Although I have to admit, the beauty and scenery were worth it.

La descripción del camping rústico me pareció divertida y contrastante. De día mágico, de noche de película de terror. 😂 Pero no hay que negar que a la final, la recompensa fue placentera. Y qué lindo lo de la dueña al invitarlos a desayunar. Sin duda, esa elección improvisada terminó siendo una muestra de la hospitalidad chilena y una gran anécdota para recordar. A seguir disfrutando de la ruta.

Que maravillosos paisajes! Muchas veces correr riegos tiene una gran paga y esos paisajes son verdaderamente maravillosos y vaya si valió la pena!
Muchas veces salir de nuestra zona de confort y animarse a vivir experiencias diferentes hace a las anécdotas del viaje y eso es grandioso. Yo muchas veces me acuerdo de experiencias que tuve en viajes y visto desde la distancia lo tomo con gracia.
Si me permitís voy a hacer una pequeña observación! Esa carpa es chiquita para dos personas!! jajajajaja
La cabaña puede ser que sea algo precaria, pero creo que la estética es ideal para ese paisaje.
Hasta ahora es muy lindo lo que nos vas regalando de este viaje que de seguro va a ser prometedor.

Hola Pablo. Si, la verdad que arriesgarse salió bien, no tendría esta anecdota si hubiesemos ido a un hotel 5 estrellas jajaja.
Y la carpa era para dossss, parece chiquita pero entramos bien. Incluso tuvimos que guardar nuestras cosas adentro porque habían unas ovejas que venían a masticar todo 😂.

Qué arriesgados aventureros, ese puente no luce como arriesgarse a cruzarlo en medio de tanta soledad.
Gracias a Dios encontraron un rústico, pero sano lugar con buenas personas.
Al parecer, hoy el sur de Chile fue sacudido por fuertes temblores y hasta alerta de tsunami. Que bueno que te encuentres de este otro lado de la cordillera. Ojalá solo sea un susto y nada más.

Traveling by boat was really fun. Also your camping and beautiful walk along the river is really great. The weather that you have seen after four days is really much awaited. Beautiful buildings and the wonderful natural mountain scenery are a unique part of the travel experience. Waiting for you in that spooky place and enjoying the travel scene was peaceful. But your fear was an accident, the great creator has kept you well, it is really a great success. The sunlight, that dazzling view, the beautiful friendship with the sky is really joyful. Eating your four meals in the morning normalizes the pain of hunger. Above all, I wish you success in your travel.
