RE: What should we build next on PeakD?

in About PeakD3 months ago

I would dearly love an option to keep AI scrapers the hell off of my intellectual property. My Peakd account is currently my sole means of income, but I would pay in HIVE to keep AI off of all my hard work.

I hate the fact that so much work and love has been fed wholesale without payment or permission to the slop machine, and I hate that billionaire techbros are forcing actual creative people to starve whilst "monetising ideas".

You may have guessed that I feel very strongly about this. PLEASE. At least make your new scrape-ability feature opt-in instead of mandatory.

Sort:

We cannot really stop AI agents from reading the content on Hive.

Even if we try to limit them, they will simply read the content from another frontend or the blockchain (because everything on the blockchain is public).

More and more people are using AI agents to find content, so blocking them will backfire in the long run as PeakD (and Hive) will be left behind in a world of agentic content discovery.

I see your FOMO and raise you "The bubble is about to pop". We can protect user's IP with "Venus Fly Trap" code that sends scrapers into an endless labyrinth of gibberish.

Trust me. Creators will appreciate being able to keep their IP the hell away from scraping machines. As I said, I will pay for that feature.

That will not help at all because AI agents can simply scrape other frontends or eventually just read the raw post content from the blockchain. There is no filter over there.

I don't understand. Are they scraping the blockchain as well?

Why make it easier for them by doing what you're planning?

Your philosophy of "they're going to do it anyway eventually" confuses me. Why should you spend effort in confounding scrapers? Because the content creators who are making the stuff that draws in income will recommend this site to other content creators who will make more stuff etc. etc. The whole idea of "They're doing their best to keep the scrapers away" could be your selling point.

Literally everyone but AI Techbros fucking hate AI and AI scraper bots. Literally everyone except unimaginitive sheeple fucking hate what AI churns out. It's the torment nexus, and we do not have to willingly be part of it.

Don't be defeatist about the "inevitable improvements of AI" - that's what the Techbros want you to think while they're desperately trying to prop up their house of cards behind the curtain. Stand up for what this site is built from - human creativity. Do what you can to protect it.

I believe that it will pay off much better than making it easy for the Techbros.
