Utility or Vanity: why do we pick them?

A verse in the book of Ecclesiastes states, "vanity upon vanity. All is vanity." But the writer was a king who had 300 wives, 700 concubines, lots of jewelries, clothes, servants, luxuries and access to whatever vanity he wanted.

You make some pretty interesting points.I wouldn't mind living in the lap of luxury but then showing off how wealthy I am doesn't make sense to me
