World Earth Day / there is a lot to reflect

in STEMGeeks11 days ago
Every April 22, Earth Day is celebrated, without a doubt it is a symbolic day because the planet earth is our home and provides us with many important resources for life. If the earth provides us with natural resources that are free because we try to seize these resources and exploit them indiscriminately to satisfy the economic needs of a small group. We also try to obtain excellent results by managing ecosystems with surface substances, as is the case of conventional agriculture, which has caused pollution of natural spaces, harming the balance of biodiversity.

The decrease in environmental quality registers alarming figures every day nowadays, when watching the news or reports of large institutions we are surprised by the environmental catastrophes that affect different areas of the world in which we live. We ask ourselves what we can do, strategies are discussed, agendas are established, world conferences on the use of the global climate change, we talk about putting brakes on pollution and environmental degradation, we define consumption management policies, among other strategies to control pollution and degradation of our ecosystems.

It is said that with the increase in the population and the amount of energy used by each person, the total energy demand has increased at an accelerated rate. This is reflected in air pollution, caused by factories and car exhaust releasing large amounts of carbon monoxide. All this is multiplying every day because we have progressively not become a consumerist and hydrocarbon-dependent society. It seems that there is an excessive production of goods that last a very short period of time so that humans are forced to replace our items very quickly.

Unfortunately, human activities generate more and more degradation of the quality of the environment and are the main causes of pollution, which transcends the limits of industrialized countries. Pollutants are waste from the things we make, use or dispose of. Pollution increases not only because the population increases, the space available to each person becomes smaller, but also because the demands per person are continuously increasing, so that each one throws away more and more waste per year.

An example of the polluting activities of the human being is agriculture, since it was becoming an activity dependent on external resources, such as fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides among other synthetic products, which are applied in an indoctrinated way causing pollution of water reservoirs and the decrease of the biodiversity of ecosystems. If we do not accept that agriculture is powered by natural processes and the interactions that individuals have with their space, then we will continue to degrade agricultural ecosystems and their surroundings.

Dear agro readers, when we truly find ourselves in a free society and without interests that are above human well-being we will begin to observe great positive changes, sustainable development is a viable paradigm in all sectors because it takes into account the environmental component, but this must be fulfilled by the large transnationals that seem to own the world, if these campaigns are enforced at all levels of society we will begin to see a positive change in our planet enjoying spaces free of pollutants and healthy people.

Today, April 22nd is a great day to remember how lucky we are to have a house as beautiful and as diverse as the earth, that is something extraordinary and that we should celebrate every second of life, the goal is to breathe clean and pure air and maintain biodiversity so that our future generations are truly safe.
