Chem Lab Memories: That One Experiment We'll Never Forget

Hello, my dearest hive friends. I hope everyone's doing well, and to my fellow Cebuanos who also experienced the earthquake, I hope you are all safe. This happened way before the earthquake happened in my beloved Cebu Province. This happened during my mini blog hiatus.

This is ....

🥼 Chem Lab Memories: That One Experiment We'll Never Forget 🥼

Ever since elementary, i really loved doing science experiments. They make learning science fun and unforgettable. During the pandemic, i was really sad because you couldn't do any experiments due to the spreading virus. Thankfully, face to face classes came back before i finished junior high school. I was part of the Special Program in Science or SPS so we had a lot of experiments and i enjoyed every single one of them.

Now that i'm in my last year of senior high school i was really expecting more science experiments especially since we have a subject called General Chemistry. I also experience doing experiments with in grade 11 but i wasn't logging at that time.

Our teacher told us that a lab coat was required for our experiments and that wearing one would even give us plus points. So I literally bought a lab coat right away.

THE EXPERIMENT

Our experiment was about different ways of separating mixtures. Our teacher chose four methods: filtration, evaporation, paper chromatography, and centrifugation.

For the filtration part, we used seawater and filtered it using filter paper. There was a lot of sand and dirt that got separated from the water. For the evaporation part, we heated the filtered seawater and waited for a few minutes for the water to evaporate to the salt would remain. It was so fun! We were honestly amazed the moment we saw the sea water turn into salt. We already knows what comes from seawater but seeing it happen in real life felt so fascinating.

For the paper chromatography, we used filter paper and ink. It was so amazing how the ink separated and showed many different colors multiplied are separated into many shades.

For the centrifugation, we use milk and a centrifuge. This honestly is the coolest part for me because I didn't expect our school to actually have a centrifuge. The health was separated into skim milk and fats, interesting to watch how fast it happened.

I can't believe that this is our first and las experiment this school year. If only the earthquake didn't happened, we would have done many experiments.

That would be all thank you for reading!!
