It sounds very hard work and labour intensive and I guess you do it coz you love it. If not, can anyone actually live off mining stones? 🤔

Yes, it's hard work, but it keeps me fit, gets me outdoors and I love it. After a few days though I am really ready for civilization and all of our creature comforts like a hot shower!
You'd be surprised at how big the market is for gems and minerals, or maybe you wouldn't. Think of all the jewelry people own. Those stones were dug out of the ground by someone like me. The rock specimen market is also huge. I was surprised when I first got involved in it. Can you make a good living, not unless you are a gifted marketer or business person, but you can make a living out of it just like anything else. We were on our way to the latter when COVID hit. That's really set us back and has cut the amount of money people spend on minerals by a lot. Luckily I have a day job.
