A Glance Inside A Switch

in STEMGeeks2 months ago

The Arista 7280R is a pretty nice model of switch. My current personal favorite in the lineup is the 7280SR-48C6. It comes with 6 100G ports(that can run at 40G if you want) and 48 10G ports. Nice and handy.

For just under $2,000 you can buy them used and they run pretty well.

You can open them up to see the innards. Not too much in there, but the model I got only came with a single 8G stick of ram. That's no good, lets add a second one in there.

Much better. That gets us to 16G of ram in this machine. That should be able to handle at least 2 full tables of routes from BGP peers and some IX peers with no issues.

Lets close this bad boy and power it back up.

Ready to go in New York City after we do some configuration work.

Maybe next week we'll look inside another switch.
