Flying in
It's so nice to be flying off for a holiday with the family again. After two years of lock downs and a lack of lock ins or anything of the sort we caught trains, planes and automobiles and found ourselves in the sunny South of Spain again. It's a place we love to holiday and there are plenty of reasons why. We love the people, the food, the weather, the pace of life, everything. It's like a home away from home. Maybe it's the Spanish Armada and Galway?
No doubt a few people are thinking the what now? Well Galway is a coastal town on Ireland's West Coast and it has a long history and connection with the Spanish who used to visit Galway to trade hundreds of years ago and some Spanish and Irish inter married and so you can still see many families in Galway with a distinctive Spanish look. Some people think I'm Spanish when I'm holidaying and say stuff to me in Spanish, then quickly realise I'm not when they see the vacant expression. I do have some pigeon Spanish and have started learning it a few times, but always get distracted and stop eventually.
Why Spain?
There is more to the Spanish love though. My wife and I actually met in Spain many years ago and we also got married in Spain, so Spain is a really important country in our lives. Our wedding anniversary is on the 18th of June and we will be in Frigilliana where we met with our kids on the day which we are really looking forward to.
I booked these flights back in August 2021, almost a year ahead of time, as that's the best way to avail of good deals. I'll probably do the same again this year and book something in August or September for next year, all going to plan or I might even hold off until the late November and early December sales when great deals are usually on the go.
This year for the first time ever I have booked 3 full weeks of annual leave from work which means I am off from June 4th until June 27th, an unheard of holiday period for me.
My current job means that I have lots of responsibilities and dependencies, so taking a nice long break is going to be very good for my family and I. This three weeks off lark is something that might even become a regular habit, as you can really forget about work life properly when you are off for that long. For me a good barometer of having a good break is when you get back and you can't remember your password for the work laptops. A quick call to the IT department sorts it out quick enough, but knowing that you forgot it is good for the head and the mind.
I plan to bring you guys a few posts from my holidays if time allows. Yep, time is always the tricky bit, as three kids and a wife need lots of time and attention of course, so my posts are squeezed in here and there where time allows, but I'll do my best to bring you a few interesting posts if I can. This first post is our descent from the sky into Malaga on day 1. I simply love being high up in the sky on a clear day looking at the flora and fauna below and the ever changing landscape of meandering rivers, glacial valleys and lakes and majestic mountains that punctuate the horizon in every direction.
In comparison to Ireland, Spain is an arid and dry land devoid of the frequent rain and moisture we see at home. Irrigation is required if one wants a garden, a golf course or flowerbeds. In Ireland, you just have to keep the weeds at bay and the Irrigation looks after itself falling straight from the sky.
Right then, I talked about photos from the sky on the way into Malaga, so here they are. Next time I'll bring you a post about the local forest fires which have had us worried as they are very close to us in Benahavís. Close enough for ash to end up in our pool.

Peace Out
Spain is very nice place to have a trip to. I’ve never been there, but know that from my mother. She visited Spain quite a lot of times and always has a great time there.
Three weeks away from work sounds quite good, as far as you don’t have additional duties that you have to take in the meantime. You’ll most likely have a pretty nice time in Spain!
Happy anniversary!
